When American designers work with Italian materials great things happen. This competition,
now in its 15th year, celebrates exceptional examples of contemporary American design
featuring fabulous Italian ceramic tiles.
In order to select from a large pool of outstanding installations, an international jury looks at the overall design of the space as well as how the tiles meet their functional and technical requirements.
As you scroll through this new website dedicated to the competition, you’ll find detailed competition rules; a downloadable submission form; answers to frequently asked questions and a historical look at the award-winning projects from the past 15 years. We hope it inspires you to submit project (s)! The North American architects and designers that have won in the past have ranged from star architects like Bernard Tschumi, Stanley Tigerman and Laurinda Spears to young up-and-comers.

$5000 per category presented to winning architects/designers at Coverings 2008, Orlando, FL + 5-day trip to Italy to attend Cersaie 2008 with delegation of design journalists (Additional $1000 to be shared by distributor/contractor team).

Eligible Projects-
New construction & renovation completed between 2003-2007
Rules-
To enter a project, North American architects/designers or such entities as were affiliated with the project must submit two (2) sets of the following:
a) Completed entry form, signed by applicant
b) Firm or designer(s) profile
c) A CD of high-resolution project images accompanied by a min. of three (3) color printouts
d) A brief project description, including client's name, Italian ceramic tile manufacturers featured, series names, formats and colors utilized; information on any sustainable architectural detailing.
Please submit application on letterhead of organization competing for the award. Multiple entries are permitted. However, each entry must include a separate entry form. Form photocopies may be used.

What do I win?
The winning architect in each category receives a 5-day all expense paid trip to Bologna, Italy to attend Cersaie as part of a delegation of design and lifestyle journalists PLUS a check for $5000 presented during the International Press Conference held annually at Coverings
The winning contractor/distributor team in each category receives a check for $1000

What type of projects are eligible?
Commercial, Residential or Institutional, new construction or renovation projects completed within the past 5 years.
How do I know if a manufacturer is a member of Ceramic Tiles of Italy?
Ceramic Tiles of Italy is the trademark used by all Italian manufacturers that belong to the professional ceramic tile association. Click here for a complete list of the participating manufacturers. Eligible companies will display the Ceramic Tiles of Italy logo.
Since it is a ceramic tile competition, are projects featuring glass mosaic tiles eligible?
Italian glass mosaic projects are welcome, but as it is a competition to celebrate ceramic tile, glass mosaics should be mixed with other ceramic materials from Italy.
Does the project have to be exclusively Italian tile? Can I use mixed medium?
As this is an award to celebrate the versatility and design potential of Italian ceramic tile, it should be the primary material featured in the project. Projects that include other materials will not be disqualified as long as materials are mixed with Italian ceramic tiles.
Can I enter the competition if I have submitted a project before?
Yes
Can I submit more than one project?
Yes, there is no limit to the number of accepted entries
How much does it cost to submit?
There is no charge for entry
